The Infernal Within

Blackmoore….The Infernal Within

When asking whom Miss Vedru would suggest for our project she only had one name, Blackmoore. Gareth Blackmoore to be exact. She said his goals match ours his personality lends to keeping things quiet. Oddly though when I questioned her what she felt about him, she replied “he is like that crust in your eyes when you wake up in the morning.” One would think someone she recommends so highly would be thought of better, but I quickly came to learn these peoples are nothing more than mere hooligans and scoundrels. They all just wait for the next scam, scheme, or big pay off. I saw more in this Mister Blackmoore. So I headed off to Dar, on the border of the northern mountains. Apparently he had taken up working in one of the logging/mining towns. He should be in good shape and perfect for what lies ahead.

When I came upon the town I found it barren except for one tavern and inn, the rest of the population lived in the mines or log cabin bunks. I went to the tavern to get something to drink for I was thirsty. I noticed in the back of the inn main room several gentlemen ere playing cards of some sort. For an hour the game had progressed well to the accusation of cheating reared its head. It quickly escalated as one pulled a dagger and gashed the large man at the table across the face. I have seen things such as this before, but not what happened afterward. The mammoth of a man had a secret.

Where the skin had ripped away there was no flesh. Instead there was yet another layer of hide of some sort underneath. He pulled off the rest of the skin snarling. He grabbed and head-butted the dagger wielding man. The man dropped to the floor in slump his nose gushing blood. The other two quickly moved the table out the way and attacked the beast. Within minutes everybody in the inn had joined the tussle all trying to take the large man down. Like a field beast trying to be tamed by farmers men were being flung around the inn. The sound of their bodies hitting the wall was sickening frankly. Honestly, I believe the whole situation was over in only a matter of minutes. The creature left still drinking from a bottle heading off into the snows.

I followed behind him deep into the forest till we came to a burned down cabin. He shoved down the door to the place that fell in a loud crash. He meandered indoors and plopped down at a table. He began to drink heavily from his glass mumbling about the horrible things like sunlight, decency, gods, and other wretched mortal things. As I approached, I announced my self. My voice was quickly silenced as a large axe was placed at my throat. Sir, I assure you once money was settled he will work for his with no problems. I am to embarrassed by what actually transpired to tell you. May Domarot and you forgive me.
